The European Union Shortlists an Experiment of Digital Twins Developed by SEINSA and LIS DATA Solutions
The EU has shortlisted an experiment developed by LIS Data Solutions and the Spanish Group SEINSA Corporation, within the DIGITbrain Innovation Programme, aimed to help European small and medium-sized entities (SMEs) gain access to Artificial Intelligence and more specifically to Digital Twins.
Mirror systems, known as Digital Twins, are virtual representations of real-world operation environments, connected through cyber physical systems (CPS), creating thus a digital twin of a physical product, system or process, used for simulation, prediction or to get information and be able to experiment possible scenarios free of risks. These simulations have been classified by the Gartner agency as one of the 10 technologies that will be driving the digital transformation of companies, and a key factor in the path towards the Industry 4.0 trend.
Within this framework, the experiment put forward by LIS Data Solutions and SEINSA Autofren aims to prevent loss of efficiency in the machinery, one of the main concerns in industrial processes. The proposal, called DRIVEN, analyses, simulates and optimizes the entire operation of product movements between a parts warehouse and the packing process at an automotive components manufacturing plant.
To achieve this, the process is monitored to forecast the risk of failure through an innovative proposal that is based on the great advances in artificial vision systems and convolutional neural network.
The experiment optimizes production processes achieving a significant improvement of the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), an indicator that measures the effectiveness of industrial machinery, increasing efficiency ratios, productivity and profitability of companies. More and more organizations are using digital twins, therefore DIGITbrain goes one step further by developing a 'Digital Product Brain' that analyses data during the entire life cycle of a production line or a machine.
Seven experiments shortlisted
Following a two-month evaluation process for the second open call, the European programme fostering innovation has shortlisted seven experiments including the one developed by LIS Data Solutions and SEINSA which, in accordance with the objective of the DIGITbrain programme, promotes the democratization of technology, exploring new business models based on data exploitation.
The DIGITbrain Project has started on July 1st 2020 and is composed by a consortium of 36 partners. During a three-year-and-a-half period, it will attract further 35-40 collaborators in two open calls for experiments, mainly technology and manufacturing SMEs. The EU project will be funded under the 2020 Horizon Europe research and innovation programme of the European Union with a 8.34 Euro budget.
SEINSA Corporation, European leader in the manufacturing of brake, suspension and transmission products.
The company has become established in Spain as a pioneer in the development of the European model for Business Excellence and it makes all their anti-crisis knowledge and methodology available for the whole automotive industry.
In 2002, SEINSA was granted the European EFQM Award for quality control and in 2005 it opened a new manufacturing plant in Chennai (India), which has allowed the company to enter new markets, mainly in the U.S.A.
In 2020 SEINSA was recognised by the Basque Innovation Agency INNOBASQUE as one of the most innovative companies in Spain.
